Hi, my name is Debbie Winterbourne and from an early age I’ve been fascinated with Tarot and the magical images within the Tarot cards.  I wanted to know what each of these beautiful images meant. I started studying the definitions of all the cards and spent many years fully understanding each one.  I’ve now been practising Tarot for over twenty years and teaching Tarot for 7 years. I have a Masters degree in Mysticism and Religious Experience and am also a qualified psychotherapist.

The good news . . .

The good news is that it needn’t take you years or a Masters degree to really understand the Tarot.  What you do need though to become a truly great Tarot card reader, is a really good foundation based on a clear understanding of the meanings within each Tarot card.

The study of Tarot is a genuine and meaningful pursuit. I strongly believe that the practise of Tarot incorporates a combination of intellectual, emotional and spiritual (mind, body, spirit) understanding and I bring all of these different disciplines to my study and teaching of Tarot.

1. Mind: It is vital to have a proper understanding of the basic symbols and meanings of the cards.

2. Emotional (or body wisdom): It is very easy as a reader to get caught up in all your own issues and processes, which affect the clarity and meaning of the reading for your client. Becoming a better Tarot reader means that you are also on your own path of personal development; understanding your shadow side and learning to come into a pure clear space, so that you can be the best reader possible.

3. Spiritual: Once the basic definitions have been assimilated, the gift of the Tarot reader is to understand the cards; not from the logical left side of the brain, but to begin to open the door to reading the cards using their intuition and understanding of the messages that the images are attempting to convey. The reader is an intermediary and translator of the cards, and just as dreams speak in images rather than words, so the Tarot is speaking its own language with which you need to become familiar.

The course is delivered as an audio powerpoint format in five parts. During the course you will learn:

• The basics of how to read Tarot cards

The Beginners’ Tarot course is divided into five parts:

• Part One: covers the first ten cards of the Major Arcana. The Major Arcana cards are powerful cards of great significance in a reading. By the end of Part One you will know something about the history of the Tarot, different Tarot decks, the definitions of the first ten cards of the Major Arcana and have discovered your Soul card. You will also be able to practise a three card reading and have understood how to shuffle and spread the cards for a reading;
• Part Two: covers the remainder of the Major Arcana cards. By the end of Part Two, you will have learnt the definitions of these remaining cards of the Major Arcana, have discovered your ‘Hidden Teacher’ card, have learned about how astrology connects with Tarot and be able to practise a five card reading;
• Part Three: covers an introduction to the 56 Minor Arcana cards in the Tarot. The Minor Arcana are composed of four suits: cups, swords, wands and pentacles. They signify everyday events in a client’s life. By the end of Part Three you will have learned about the first half of the Minor Arcana suits of Cups and Swords. You will also have learned about the energies of the Minor Arcana and be able to practise two full length Tarot spreads both taken from real life clients;
• Part Four: covers the second half of the Minor Arcana suits of Wands and Pentacles. By the end of Part Four, you will have learned the definitions of the Wands and Pentalces cards and be able to practise two further full length Tarot spreads based on real life clients;
• Part Five: covers the complex Court Cards of the Minor Arcana. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen and King in each of the Minor Arcana suits. By the end of Part Five, you will know what type of person or situation each Court card might signify and how the Court cards link to astrological signs. You will also know the definitions of all the Court cards and be able to practise the famous Tarot spread ‘The Celtic Cross’. You will also discover how Tarot might link to different themes such as conflict, anger, joy, travel and health.
